Sunday at Dupont Farmer’s Market, and the dinner that followed
On Sunday morning, I took my first visit to Dupont Circle Farmer’s Market, a Freshfarms market. While friends have been telling me to go for months, I finally made the trek – partly to see my friend Maude, who was volunteering at Copper Pot Food Company, and partly to pick up food for the evening’s meal.
I’m going to write a longer post about the Copper Pot Food Company, since I was so impressed with their product and pasta (it was amazing!), but I wanted to give initial impressions.
1) The market was huge! There were stalls of flowers, dairy, plants, bread, meat and poultry – you name it, it was there.
2) The market was crowded. Even on a cooler than normal Mothers’ Day, I still had to push my way through at points.
3) The market had a variety of fresh foods. I’ve never experienced a combination of such fresh ingredients all in one place. It really made a special meal.
4) I’ll be going back! I can’t believe I waited this long to try it out.
After I purchased by loot, I made my way home to cook a special meal for two of our colleagues. You can read all about it at Kim Hodgson’s blog, Cultivating Sustainability, but here’s a rundown with links to the recipes and photos posted there:
The cocktail: Orange and Basil Cocktails
The meal: Macaroni and Cheese, Meat Loaf Sandwiches, and Fresh Salad
The dessert: Philadelphia-style vanilla-bean ice cream

John,
So glad you are featuring the DuPont FreshFarms Market, it is one of DC’s friendliest communities. Aside from the fresh produce I love the Biscotti from ATWATER’S BAKERY http://www.freshfarmmarket.org/farmers_producers/meet_our_farmers_producers.php?fpindex=3&fpgroup=a_c
They are not buttery, very crisp, and flavorful. For the last four weeks they have had diffrent flavors: Ginger, Mocha Pecan, Anise Almond, and Hazelnut. All amazing!
